There are so many different places to visit or things to do around the cottage you'll be spoilt for choice, 4 miles from the cottage you can visit Cannich/Glen Affric/Glen Strathfarrar, these places have beautiful scenery, mountains, forests, rivers and waterfalls. Glen Affric has a reputation as one of the most beautiful wilderness areas of Scotland and is now a national nature reserve.

Plodda Falls
5km south west of the village of Tomich near Glen Affric is the highest and most spectacular waterfall in the area, it is over 40 metres high and forms the climax to a pleasant walk through a magnificent forest of Douglas Fir, there are very good waymark paths throughout.

Inverness WALKS

From High Mountains to Low Land Glens you will be sure to find a route to please everyone,you can take a different walk everyday and still be amazed by the scenery and wildlife you encounter on your travels.There's salmon fishing locally and golf at Aigas,wildlife enthusiasts will be delighted to hear that a wide variety of animals and birds can be spotted in the area,red deer,black grouse,golden eagles,osprey,capercaillie,pine martens and otters to name but a few.

Nine miles from the cottage,shops,supermarket,restaurants,bank,a beautiful village on the shores of Loch Ness.Children will love it here looking around the Loch Ness visitor centre,for the smaller one's visit Nessieland where you can learn about Loch Ness and the monster from a presentation and documentary.Whilst mum 's and dad's have a well earned drink in the café the children can play on the outdoor adventure playground.Visiting Urquhart castle is a must,this once was one of Scotlands largest castles,it lies on the west shore of Loch Ness-splendid views of the Loch.

Whether you choose to visit,explore,shop,relax,Inverness will not disappoint,it is an exceptional place,the city boasts historic buildings,take a visit to the Town Hall or the old Victorian Market, or if you want to shop ,the Eastgate Centre provides a vast selection of goods to please everyone.A short stroll to Inverness Castle,this overlooks one of the most beautiful riverside settings in Britain.Walk around Ness Islands where you can watch anglers casting long lines in River Ness in the hope of catching a salmon,you can buy a daily ticket and try it yourself. Glen Urquhart
Glen Urquhart is a very beautiful Highland Glen with an attractive mix of part conifer forest and native broadleaved woodlands many areas are suitable for walking, there are way marked walks in Craigmonie woodland near Drumnadrochit at the foot of the Glen. There is also a network of forest roads all along the Glen which are ideal for walking, cycling and horse-riding.

Beauly is 15 miles from the Cottage over the hills of Drumnadrochit. It is a thriving and bustling Highland village with a vast selection of shops, restaurants and cafe's. Very popular village for those interested in game sports-shooting and fishing available locally.River Beauly is a renowned salmon river and also provides the scene for some gentler walks around the village, cycling is popular in the area and golfers are well catered for with a course in the near village of Muir of Ord. The village has a well deserved reputation for it's top class floral displays, during the summer the window boxes, hanging baskets and flower beds are a beautiful sight which clearly shows why Beauly was a worthy winner of the large village in bloom competition for the U K.

Aviemore is an all year round destination with a wide range of activities to choose from, about an hour journey from Glen Urquhart , it is worth a visit, it is a busy resort, shopping, restaurants, plenty to see and do. Surrounded by stunning scenery , there's a wide range of winter and summer activities to choose from, one of the country's top Ski areas, shops offering gifts, crafts, plenty of pubs, restaurants and cafe's.
